Controls

Press F1 and at time while playing the game for on-screen control definitions!

Some levels are marked as Simplified Controls; look at Simplified Controls below for those levels.

Note: You can also use the W, A, S, and D keys as cursor keys (W=Up, A=Left, S=Down, D=Right). Many people find this to be more comfortable to use.

Common Controls (both Standard and Simplified)

Sliding
Walk on ice to start sliding. It will center you on the ice path. If you come to a wall, you will automatically bounce without damage. You can jump off of ice, but the ice will break if you jump onto it. This usually leads to death, but sometimes can lead to hidden chambers.

Map
Click the middle mouse button or tab to view a map of area. Click it again to turn the map off. You can use the Page Up / Page Down keys to view other floors. The map fills out as you explore, and can be very important later in the game. White areas have been explored, while dark blue areas are unexplored. A dark blue "+" is a key or star, a grey "+" is a key that you have marked as "false". The light blue squares are doorways. Look for doorways that are right next to unexplored (dark blue) areas. These indicate rooms you have yet to enter.

Learning Painting
This is a painting of the subject of your current lesson. It acts as the main center for learning. It also restores your life to 100% and does a game save. Note that this is the only place where you can save a game in progress. Use Page Up / Page Down to select the item you wish to view. Press the Enter key to toggle between index mode (where you see only the headings), and full text mode (where you see the text of the one item selected). When you are "blown up" by a key or door, or tile "pops" underneath you, this painting will show the information you need to understand what you did wrong. When you are done, just walk away from the painting.

Eagle Painting
If you have the star that answers the question that the painting asks, you will have the ability to fly. Use Page Up / Page Down to choose the correct star answer. Press enter to use it. Your star answers are not used up.

Armor Painting
If you have the star that answers the question that the painting asks, you will be able to use armor. Use Page Up / Page Down to choose the correct star answer. Press enter to use it. Your star answers are not used up. You will remain armored for 30 seconds.

Stealth Fighter Painting
If you have the star that answers the question that the painting asks, you will be able to use stealth. Use Page Up / Page Down to choose the correct star answer. Press enter to use it. Your star answers are not used up. You will remain in stealth mode until you press Enter. Enemies cannot see you in stealth mode, but you can't open doors, get keys, get stars, or use paintings while in stealth mode.

Reading - Text-to-speech
The program can read the educational text out loud to you. Press R to read the text, Q to make it stop whatever it is reading. If in automatic mode (see Options), it will also read whenever the text changes. It does not read the on-screen instructions and scores, etc.

Exit/Pause
Press Esc key.
